Geotechnical research into the field of Unsaturated soils started in the 50’s with some funding papers including Croney, Coleman and Bishop’s pioneering contributions and its development started to be significant 20 years ago, following the venue of the UNSAT’95 - First International Conference on Unsaturated Soils held in Paris in 1995, as a consequence of a series of successful Conferences on Swelling soils with the last one held in Dallas (1992).
This series of conferences sponsored by the TC6/TC106 Technical Committee of ISSMGE on Unsaturated soils was afterwards followed by a series of successful Regional Conferences that started in Singapore in 2000 with the Asia-Pacific series, followed by the European one started in Durham (UK) in 2008 and, finally, the Pan-American series started in Cartagena de las Indias (Colombia) in 2013.
In this exciting context, there is no doubt that the forthcoming E-UNSAT 2016 in Paris, will attract interesting contributions and foster fruitful discussions from researchers from Europe and overseas.
Quite a good response to the call for papers was received with 166 accepted papers from all over the world, quite a large number for a regional Unsat Conference. All authors will be given the opportunity to make a short presentation (12 minutes + 3 minutes discussion). 18 Distinguished Lecturers (Keynote, Plenary and Invited Lecturers) will provide insights into the more advanced achievements in the field, playing an important role in the interest and scientific outcome of the Conference.
The Conference will be opened by the First European Distinguished Lecture selected by TC106 that will be delivered by Prof. Yu-Jun Cui (Ecole des Ponts ParisTech, France). Two other Keynote Lectures will be delivered by Profs Weimin Ye (Tong-Ji University, China) and Majid Hassanizadeh (University of Utrecht, the Netherlands). Six Plenary Lectures will also be delivered. Distinguished Lectures also include nine Invited Lectures given at the beginning of the Parallel Sessions.
The Conference Proceedings will be made available in open-access on the web and their insertion in major databases (Web of Science, Scopus).
A Technical exhibition will be held during the Conference. It will be an excellent opportunity to meet experts, professionals and companies, to discuss experiences and international practices, to learn about new projects and innovations from different countries and to strengthen ties within the geotechnical engineering professional community.
